How to Obtain a Real Estate Brokers License

Step 1 |
Go online to www.trec.state.tx.us click on the education button, (blue) click on the education evaluation. Print out and complete document, mail to TREC to this address, P.O box 12188 Austin, Texas 78711-2188 along with a check made payable to the Texas Real Estate Commission with official or certified copy of college transcript. |

Step 2 |
Contact school to speak with a campus counselor at 713-334-1900/1920 or toll free 1-(877) 731-3080 regarding the necessary information in order to fulfill the licensing requirements. In order to become a real estate broker:
A. You must have at least two years in the industry (active experience) as a licensed real estate sales person during the 96 month period immediately preceding the filing of the application or if licensed as a broker in another state not less than 2 years active experience as a licensed real estate sales person or broker during the 36 month period immediately preceding the filing of the application.
B. 270 classroom hours of CORE real estate courses, this must include a 30 hour real estate brokerage course.
C. An additional 630 classroom hours in related courses acceptable to TREC.

Step 3 |
While you are waiting for TREC to respond to your education evaluation form, you may begin to attend additional courses to meet the requirements of TREC. |

Step 4 |
Once you have completed all courses required by TREC, you will need to complete your application online. For further information regarding the broker application process, visit the TREC website at www.trec.state.tx.us and click on licenses apply or renew (brown tab). |

Step 5 |
While you are waiting for TREC to approve your broker application and send you back a pin number, enroll in a Real Estate Exam Prep course. |

Step 6 |
Once you have received your pin number from TREC, you may contact PSI (testing center) to take your broker’s exam. |
Remember that while your application is pending, you are still practicing under your current broker!
